More after the jump. . .
During our "Will Your Plane Survive?" program, we invited kids 12 and under to test their best paper plane designs against each other. We spoke about aerodynamics and why it matters in flight. If you're interested in where our points of conversations came from, check out Tell Me Why Planes Have Wings by Shirley Willis.
And without further adieu, here's a look at some of the fun we had:
Building our paper planes.
We added a few books about how to build paper planes on the tables just in case anyone needed a little inspiration.
After a few practice flights, we began measuring how far each person could fly their plane.
As we measured we made sure to write down how far each person's plane flew and then averaged their three flights (it was supposed to be five but the kids took great care in designing their planes ;o)).
The score circled in red was our winner!!
