TADPOLES.... YES ... WE GOT TADPOLES

Yes, the West Regional Branch Library has Tadpoles... come to the children department and take a look at our "beautiful" tadpoles....

Did you know  that Tadpoles are young amphibians that usually live in the water...(?)...(some are terrestrial). Tadpoles are also called:  Pollywog.  Tadpole is the larval stage in the life cycle of an amphibian, particularly that of a frog or a toad.   They do not have arms or legs until the transition to adulthood.  Tadpoles typically have a large flattened tail with which they swim...
So come and visit the children's department and take a look at our .... TADPOLES....

WEST REGIONAL CELEBRATES SPIDERMAN DAY!

Yesssssssssssssssssss. Children of all ages joined us as we celebrated Spider-man National Day... 

... SPIDER-MAN movie was shown, light refreshments were serve, cool spider rings were available for the patrons to take home and spider-man books were displayed around the library...and yes, the staff was sporting red, black and blue outfits to help capture the moment.  Cool times at the West Regional Library.....

Stories For Young Children...Wednesday @ 11:00...

 MRS HONEY'S HAT by Pam Adam.... Why was everyone staring at Mrs. Honey's new hat?... Well, the answer was reveal by Mrs. Chris by reading and acting this amusing story to all our young ones on Wednesday.  The little ones enjoy the story telling, the songs and the beautiful craft all done during our Stories for Young Children time here at the West Regional Library.

HAMPSTEAD...SECRET GARDEN

The Hampstead Stage Company presented THE SECRET GARDEN... an enchanting story about a young orphan girl, Mary Lennox, who comes to live with her uncle in the English countryside.  Through her curiosity and determination, Mary finds a garden where memories have been locked for years....

With this beautiful story, we shared a message of  hope, healing and friendship...

THERE WAS AN OLD LADY WHO SWALLOWED A FLY!

She swallowed a fly. Why?.... and the singing and rhyming began. Yes, at our Stories for Young Children our young ones birth to 5 years (with and adult caregiver) can enjoy story telling, nursery rhymes, finger plays and songs that promote languague, literacy, and motor skills development as they get to make a take home craft.  We invite you to join us every Wednesday @ 11:00 am and be part of the fun.

 

   

jacksonville ZOO & GARDENS....at West Regional

As part of our Summer Reading Program...DIG INTO READING... the jacksonville ZOO and GARDENS visited our library where over a 100 children and their caregiver came to learn about animals and their habitats from the Zoo education staff and docents.... Another successful day at our public library!

SCIENCE SATURDAY.........BLAST!




Just rocket science! Yes, Saturday was our first Science Saturday!!! for this summer and we did it by launching rockets....Miss Chelsea provided some interesting information about rockets, structure and how they work and put it to the test. Our young ones got to launch their own "rockets" made out of plastic water bottles, water, vinegar, baking soda and lots of fun....
