Star Pictures by Star Students

This morning, a group of fifth and sixth graders from Cedar Hills Baptist Christian School visited.  After touring the library and learning how to search the online catalog, we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving and Native American cultures by reading S.D. Nelson's The Star People and making our own star people and creatures to guide and care for us.

Nemours Visit #2

We had another opportunity to visit with the folks from Nemours Bright Start this week.  We read about food during storytime, and then we made letters out of alphabet noodles and played a sorting game based on the first letters of different food names.

What Did We Do on This Gloomy Day?

After our preschool storytime about weather, we visited with some folks from Nemours Brightstart who were here to make a craft, lead some games, and do screenings.

3 Little Ghosts

Didn't catch any performances of our Halloween puppet show on Saturday?  We did an encore performance yesterday without some of the bells and whistles...just for kicks.  Warning:  we by no means think we are professional puppeteers or filmmakers!  We do think, though, you are in store for a good laugh (whether it is at our expense or not is yet to be determined)!  Enjoy!

Preschool Handiwork

Today, we made handprint dragons during preschool storytime.  They were so cute we couldn't resist sharing some of them with you!

Our favorite dragon book is Take Care, Good Knight by Shelley Moore Thomas and illustrated by Jennifer Plecas.

Puppets!!!

Can you believe it is almost the end of October? We definitely can't! It is almost time for that very special day when we dress strangely and get to eat lots and lots of that sticky, gooey stuff that is bad for both our bellies and our teeth. You know what day we're talking about, right?

In celebration of that very special day, we here @ the WRL are having a puppet show. On Saturday, October 30 at 3:00 and 3:30 pm, children of all ages can join us for The Three Little Ghosts (and the Big Bad Mummy).  Our three ghosts are a little worried:  "Mummy?" they say.  "What mummy?"

Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Programming!

Now that school is back in session, we have started to offer regular story hours once again @ the WRL.  On Tuesday mornings at 10:30 and 11:00 am, children ages 18 months to 3 years can join Ms. Chris for toddler time, and on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 am, children ages 3-5 years can join Ms. Sara for preschool storytime.  In both programs, we read stories, sing plenty of songs, and finish things up with an art project. 

We haven't forgotten about you school-aged folks though!  On early release Wednesdays, be sure to stop by at 2:30 for a craft program led by Ms. Antoinette.

The ZooTREK interest meeting is this weekend!

It's a Zoo in Here...

or, at least, it will be on Saturdays this fall with the return of our ZooTREK club for kids ages 9 to 12.  Join us on August 28th at 11 am for an informal meeting to find out more about the program that combines animals, learning, and team-building.  Kids must bring a parent to the meeting!

One Final Splash!

Karl and some animals friends from the Jax Zoo visited us last Wednesday to wrap up our school age summer programming.  There were so many people here!
