We were like turkeys today after our storytime craft... we gobbled, gobbled up our edible crafts. We made baby birds using lemon creme cookies, coconut, chocolate chips and candy corn. Yummy!

365 Penguins

We are talking about birds tomorrow in Toddler Time.   There are way too many good books to share but this is one I wish I could share.  It asked the age old question:  What would you do with a penguin?  I am sure this is a question you ask yourself all the time.  But in this book, it gets a bit more complicated.  See, in this book, one penguin is followed by another and another and another....  Who is sending a penguin a day to this family?  Why are they doing it?  These questions are answered by the end (and then there is a surprise at the end too).

One of the best things about this book is it introduces math in a fun and amusing way.  Like if each penguin eats 2.5 pounds of fish a day and they have 100 penguins (well at that point at least), how many pounds is that?  It is 2.5 x 100 but by the end of the page, it is 2.5 x 101.

All in all, it is a bright, colorful book with a lot of humor and a whole lot of penguins.  Come and check it out along with all of our other beautiful bird books : )

If Wishes were Fishes...

We are having a very special guest at our puppet show next weekend on April 28th @ 3 pm.  It is open to children (and fairies) of all ages.

The puppet show is called "If Wishes were Fishes" and was written by Miss Eve and her husband.  It is the tale of Miss Ewe the snarky sheep, Al the Bear and his two hisses... I mean wishes : )  Delia D the magical fairy shows up to grant those wishes with one teeny tiny itsy bitsy problem.

Following the puppet show, we will have a craft and fairy photo/dusting opportunity.  I am wishing that you all get to come : )  Now, what should my other wish be?

Frogs...

For storytime this week, we learned about frogs and how they start out as tadpoles.  We sang this song to help us remember the changes.

Little Tadpole
(tune: Frere Jacques)
Little tadpole,
little tadpole,
Lost his tail,
Lost his tail.
Now he has two feet
Now he has four feet
Look a frog!
Look a frog!

Each week, we share a preliteracy skill for parents to practice that is listed on our handout. This week's was:

Even though young children do not understand the meanings of the rhymes, it is important for them to hear them.  By six months babies are already able to recognize the sounds of the languages they hear and are already losing those sounds they don't hear.

Also listed on the Toddler Time handout is our joke of the week:  What do French frogs eat?  French flies : )

Don't forget to come next Tuesday for our Bunnies storytime at 10:30 and 11:00 am!
